Is it possible to have a wide range of torque in an engine w
if the flywheel's moment of inertia is varied,can the engine's torque requirements be met without a gearbox?

I'm no engineer, but aren't gearboxes more about vehicle speed than torque?
I've seen some old farm engines that had huge flywheels and great torque but couldn't get out of their own way.
