Is Painting Necessary?????

Interior paint. Is it necessary? My bus is down to bare bones and Iím about to start on insulation after itís all cleaned up. But before that Iím going to paint the metal floor with a layer of Rustoleum for the ant-rust propertiesÖ but do I need to paint the metal walls and interior ceiling??? Is that necessary?

Whatís the point since itís all about to be covered up with plywood and whatnot?

Its really your call. We are painting because we have some minor surface rust. If it is clean, you could probably just leave it alone.

If the interior is galvanized and in good condition (aka not excessively oxidized/damaged/missing), you'd do just fine to leave it as is. It will essentially take the place of paint in this context, as it exists to prevent corrosion.

When we gutted ours, the interior ceiling was coated with a material similar to what you'd seal the undercarriage with. When we removed it, it revealed surface rust where the galvanization had failed. This coating essentially trapped moisture between the steel & itself, accelerating corrosion. We ended up prepping & painting the entire enterior with a 2-part epoxy. The upside is it will last longer than we'll be alive. The downside is it was a lot of work and considerable expense.

If you only have spots where the galvanized coating has failed, you could just address those areas and leave the rest alone.
Go away. 'Baitin.
