Is this the bus for us?

Hi there, we're a couple out of Asheville, NC. We are looking to begin our skoolie project and are in the buying phase. We are looking to travel the states for a year, then settle with it somewhere. We have both been reading up on this for about 3 weeks and exploring different busses. We came across this ad today and it looks like a decent deal. Guy said there is no rust except a little bit on the rear door. He is not affiliated with the church that had it, so its obviously a re-sell. Wondering if it is possible to mess with the odometer? We wanted 20-25 long ft of internal living space, and this looks like it falls right in there. Also low miles (hopefuly) and a DT360. Should we jump on this?

About an hr away, we go to Asheville for lunch all the time

I would make sure to get a bus with airbrakes on it, IMO they are safer than hydraulic or Lucas Girling brakes (air over hydraulic) 1 rusty brake line can mean no brakes, also parts are $$$

I like the engine.
But that mileage is pretty suspect. Its VERY easy to change out the gauge cluster, and that's because they're known to break.
Low headroom.
I kinda like that bus, but not for traveling the country to a year. For traveling the country I'd want a big engine, overdrive, cruise control, and air ride.

one of my busses is a DT-360, not fast but it is reliable and never runs hot!

How does one tell what the height of the ceiling is? Would you suggest that we look at something newer then? There's this one but she's got a hefty ($8200) price tag: https://www.bus4less.net/bus-gallery

I take odometers and hour meters with a big grain of salt. Instead, I look at the pedals, steering wheel and seat for wear.

if the bus is electronic, the computer will have the mileage and hours stored in it.. if the computer is replaced, it will be noted in the program if the meters were lost.. or you can see if the VIN / engine serial number are different as well.

look for a tag on the side of it like a rebuild or reman tag.. in the case of my DEV bus, the cluster and the engine were replaced at the same time from what I can tell.. the cluster was dated when it was replaced, and the engine has a jasper tag on it.. when i called jasper and gave them the tag number, the engine build date was just a couple months before the cluster install date..

I surmised that the temp or oil gauge quit and they blew up the old engine..
