is this too much rust?

Hey i am looking to get my first bus to convert to a skoolie on ebay and i dont know a lot about buses but do you guys think this is too much rust for a bus and should i keep looking or is this about normal for a bus? Thanks

That's minor, and the exhaust looks good (although that might be the only part of the exhaust they've replaced and the rest is worse). Your main concern is going to be with rust on the floor of the body, and that's difficult to evaluate until you have the seats and plywood floor up. Your bus is obviously from a rusty area so it will almost certainly have a rusty floor.

BTW, it's funny how the exact word-for-word title "is this too much rust?" is chosen on this forum. It's a sign that there are a lot of buses with too much rust out there.

Maybe we should have a generic "is this too much rust?" thread going, and then people could see lots of examples of "yes that is too much rust".

I agree with MG - not great, but not terrible either. The floor crossmembers concern me slightly, however. But I've certainly seen worse on here. But keep in mind if it's not arrested and kept in check in short order, it will get worse.

Food for thought. One member actually cut out the entire floor and replaced it with new crossmembers and all.

Depends on what your end game is.
Do you want a solid relatively water tight vehicle without spending an arm and a leg, or countless hours/days/weeks/months remediating a rust bucket?
If yes, keep looking.

If you only want to have a weekend travel rig put together quickly that isn't necessarily a "keeper", then go for it?

It all comes down to what you're looking for in a skoolie, short or long term.
