I'm going with antique white - surely it's not possible to poke fun at antique white?

My first thought was to paint the lens covers to black to match the bus (it's black where the lights are), remove the bulbs, and paint the space between the lights black as well. I'm hoping this will allow me to at least get plates for it. I'm looking for something super easy and cheap without losing, 'it's a school bus!', charm. I'm in northern Wisconsin.
