Liquor Cabinet

Does anyone have a idea for a good looking way to display liquor bottles i.e. cabinet that will hold the bottles securely while driving but for all to see while tailgating so they don't have to dig thru the cabinet to see what we have

Re: Liquor Cabinet

I have seen 6-10 bottle dispensers....Google and drool

Wife thinks the wine dispensers are very cool, last night we saw one one, she said "something like that would end up in the bus before the house since we party in the bus and are boring at home"

Re: Liquor Cabinet

If you have a pretty consistent inventory, you could use a router and cut a recess in the shelf and cut a holder type bar to fit each bottle halfway up. Then take and put some felt on the inside surfaces to stop clinking noises. On the holder bar: split it down the length and put a lock/latch on 1 end with a hinge on the other end. This will make it pretty specific to each bottle, but it would look really slick and function nicely I think.

Re: Liquor Cabinet

Funny this topic should come up tonight... here is a pic of the "bus bar" here in the man-cave earlier this evening:

The fridge, of course, being stocked with a fine selection of beers. I don't think I will post a pic of what the bus looks like right now... Suffice it to say, a good time was had by all!

Of course this setup is temporary and would obviously not travel well. If you look very closely behind the bottle of Evan Williams 1783, in the compartment with the clipboard and cutting boards, you can almost see the rectangular decanter that I keep filled with whatever whiskey I'm fond of at the time. It fits perfectly in that space, is not real visible to prying eyes, and does travel well, and that is what lives permanently in the bus. It isn't much, but it is certainly better than nothing! When I'm setting up for a party/camping event, I'll just pack more bottles as needed.

Not too shabby, not too shabby. One of my drinkin' buddies brought over some more bottles of nice bourbon after the pic was taken, including Russell's Reserve 10 year old, which I really liked. I had more bourbon and Tennessee sour mash in the house, but I didn't feel like hauling my whole liquor cabinet out to the bus. This was mainly a Kentucky bourbon tasting night, so I only had one of my Scotch bottles out (just as a counterpoint), and a few bottles of tequila (for diversity ). We have these whiskey tasting nights in the name of educational endeavor, you know, expanding our knowledge of fine spirits and whatnot, but the underlying reality is we just like to get good and pissed once in a while, ya know?! Very therapeutic.

The 87 plaque is off a bleacher end at the Big House, Michigan Stadium where we take the bus for tailgates and games in the fall. I have the upper door glued and clamped and should be ready to stain and install tomorrow

Knob Creek is one of my favorite bourbons! It is really rich and tasty. It has earned a permanent place in my cabinet as the resident 100 proof whiskey (I see now they have a special reserve 120 proof - cask strength! woohoo! ).

I'm not a big fan of Buffalo Trace. It's okay, but it's kind of like drinking light beer in my opinion. It just doesn't have much body or depth. Kind of boring. I think my favorite bourbon may be Elijah Craig 12 year old. It's a fantastic bourbon, and reasonably priced considering it's age at around the same price as Knob Creek.

The cabinet is looking great by the way! It's kind of hard to see from your pictures what is going on in there though - I'll be interested to see some bottles in there to see how it is set up. How did you accommodate having differently sized and shaped bottles?

Re: Liquor Cabinet

Good to know, thanks for the review. We have a couple of single malt drinkers on the bus and a Jack fan but everyone loves their bourbons.
As for the cabinet, I built the cabinet on several levels so that you can remove bottles without interfering with other bottles, square bottles like Evan Williams and Jack are on flat "shelves" with rubber bar rail spill mats to keep the bottles from rattling as we drive down the road. For round bottles I made plexiglass cut out panels of 3" and 3 1/4" cirles and sanded one side to give it that frosted look. The lower half is a wine rack for my wife and her friends 3 1/2" squares slightly angled to keep the bottles from sliding out but still keeping thecork wet. I'll load it up and take a pic to give you an idea

I'm a huge fan of single malt Scotch. Don't even get me started!
