List of options to plug into data / diagnostic port?

I've skimmed a ton of threads talking about hardware/software 'plugged in' to the data / diagnostic port. It's a bit overwhelming. I'd like the ability to at least easily read error codes, but there appears to be potentially much more you can do, like create digital gauge panels, write as well as read from the ECM, etc.

Can anyone give me something like a high-level overview of what options are possible? I don't want to do something like purchase a scan tool and then find out I could have had a whole lot more cool functionality I didn't know to implement, or how to implement.

I have Bluefire that can work on my andriod phone or windows 10 computer. Works but I have not driven the bus much as it needs tires so i just drive around town.

That looks like exactly what I'd like. I assume it displays error codes as well?


Is this the only / best game in town when it comes to this type of functionality?

I have a bluefire. its a bit of a pain. It disconnects a lot due to too much data through the interface. When i have time, i can change some parameters to try to fix the issue. I also might try out pairing with an IPAD (that i dont currently own) to see if that helps the stability. Honestly, for my use, i wish i would've gone with a ScanGuage D. I have a physical gauge for almost everything i want.
