Big thing is tyou made it back and the bus runs good! you try and go 80 in that thing and you can expect about 5 MPGs.. you drive it 55-60 and you'll likely get closer to 9... maybe higher..

I had appointments today with doctors, had to be back. I'm waiting to get the Genesis done so I can stop and smell the roses along the way. So many little stops I could have made on the way back if not in a hurry. Obscure museums from the area, parks , nature sights, etc. Believe me, I'd much rather take 2 weeks coimng across than try it in 2 days.
If I was keeping this, I would definitely add a cruise control, my foot hurts from standing on the oddly placed pedal.

I only checked fuel mileage on the first fill up. I just reconciled the trip and it looks like 2760miles, 363ga. Comes out to 7.6mpg over the trip.

I've already listed it on CL and have people wanting to come look. I'm keeping this route sign though.

While I was not impressed with the governed speed, it is what she would do. On a decent grade she coasted to 70, and on a steep one managed 75 for a few seconds. What was fun was watching the big rigs blow by at the base of the uphill and then slow as they went , while I maintained and motoered right by em at 67mph. What sucked was when I could gain speed and go to pass and as soon as I headed them they caught up. Dang, now the right thing to do is drop speed and fall back in behind him before I piss off the dozen stacked up behind me now for the next 4 miles.
This thing absolutely needs a cruise control, arm rests, and an air ride seat. And a TACH, even though it's governed.

And a cigarette lighter plug.

For air ride seats, don't pay more than $50. Ideally you can get it for free, lots of truckers throw out cloth seats that are still 100x better than anything in a school bus.

Could look into the Thomas dealer and see how much they'd bend you over to get the governor changed.

This bus is for sale. I will not sell it as the racer that I am, bitchin it ain't fast enough. But as the safe driver who knows it goes nicely at a safe 67mph. I need to search changing the governor. I'm spolied because all that this bus is missing are in my Genesis, though this is anicely built bus. I gotta figure out how much I actually have in my $1500 bus, close to double that.

thats a bus you hang onto until the next Tiny home show someplace and you show up wit ha for sale sign for half of what certain bus dealers in florida will show up with and it probably drives home before the show is halfway through..

Dang what are your RPM at that 67mph?

When I got my all american i was happy about the 100 gallon tank, felt weird being able to drive all day without stopping for fuel. but man that hurt when it was time to stop!

No tachometer in this bus. Long runs are nice, but like you say, $250-$300 to fill it up. Fuel averaged between $2.99-$3.19

Ouch, I paid $4K for my 2001 All American RE with the 8.3 Cummins which is argueably a more desirable engine.

I don't remember what engine was in that one, but I'm told the RE's coming up in the spring are 5.9 with a 2500 or 3060.

Anyone interested in one like this 05, Beaverton just relisted one where the buyer backed out because he thought it was a rear engine. Bus 523, identical to my 521.

What years? 2003+ 5.9 pushers are pretty decent, I think Cummins turned them up to 275 hp or so. Still somewhat underpowered for a full size skoolie but that's not bad compared to the earlier ISBs.
