MCI or School Bus? I'm an ok carpenter but very good in diesel mechanics.

I'm considering a bus conversion for a temporary living quarters/vacation camper) and hoping to make an informed choice in a bus. Here's whats important to me in a bare bones bus to convert.
  1. water tight without much fuss
  2. structure solid without structural rust
  3. inexpensive DIY repairs (I will do ALL repair work)

Here are my strengths:
1. Good diesel mechanic ability. Not afraid of most jobs.
2. Ok carpenter who can build structural framing just fine.
3. Very good in electrical, electronics, plumbing

I'm very familiar with the school bus' T444E diesel from my Ford 7.3 powerstroke passenger vehicles. I have done all my own work on this engine for many years now. I've rebuilt my injectors on 2 of these engines. I like the 7.3L diesel

I'm curious and very interested in the 2 stroke detroit diesels (8v71, etc) in the MCI busses. I can fix almost anything mechanical. I have little knowledge of the detroits. It's probably not all the beneficial to learn them at this point... but I'm not afraid of them.

Here's my wish list in a bus:
1. The bus will need to be functional sleeping dining quarters only (heat from a wood stove, no A/C).
2. Bigger is better. It needs to sleep 9 people.
3. I won't be driving it much so drivetrain and high power up hills won't matter, but I do care about reliable and easy to work on.

Is one chassis going to be better than the other in any of these ways?
