Motor cover

I have a 1977 Thomas that was converted to a hunting camper , it no longer runs, I am wondering if anyone had cut the motor cover down or if it can be done.
The reason I'm asking is the previous owner installed a window unit , but it just doesn't cool the bus, I have a portable room AC unit that I was thinking of of using , but with limited space the only place i see to put the unit is on top of the motor cover , but the unit is 35 inches tall . If I can cut the cover down by about 10 inches it will give me enough room to install the unit .
any help would be appreciated.

Might be possible the window unit would be just fine with cleaning and charging. Also possible a similar sized unit could be fit in its place. Those portables generally don't cool that well. Just my $0.02.

On my previous bus, I had a piece of plyboard cut to serve as a trim plate to hold a window unit in the hole from a removed window.
