Re: Need Carburetor help

Actually alot of the older gas engines used governors on the heavy trucks to control engine speed. I do not know why that would affect the trans though. What trans do you have? WQhat kind of issues are you having with it?

Re: Need Carburetor help

i might have a wwc with a governor on it unless i tosses it out a couple of weeks ago. i will have to look.
you can use any of that series carb without the governor - ones that came off of pickups and some of the carbs before the quadrajet.
I dont know of they make a quadrajet manifold for that engine, that is what i would put on it instead of a holly..
i am pretty sure you can buy a quadrajet to that type of manifold bolt pattern aluminum spacer with the quadrajet holes and the other bolt pattern on the other.. i am sure i probably have some of those somewhere hanging up.

Re: Need Carburetor help

Vacuum lines pop into my head, just cannot remember why.... Got "CRS"

With it being a 1974 model chances are the may be a vacuum line hooked between the engine and trans for some reason...?????
might be worth a shot....

Re: Need Carburetor help

from rereading the original post, if the tranny is having shifting problems because of the carb, then it is a vacuum issue.. That should be easy to fix without changing the carb, as either it takes an unrestricted vacuum supply, or one of the restricted ones. My guess so far is that is running either on no vacuum hooked up or on an unrestricted vaccum supply port. There should be a port in the base of the carb for a restricted vac supply, so i imagine it is just a question of maybe rerouting hoses or a fitting or "T" in the vacuum line.
