Need help identifying!

Hello everyone. I am new here and just made an account.

My girlfriend and I have wanted to do a bus conversion now for a few years and I stumbled across this Bus for basically free.

My plan was to use it to haul my racecar and sleep in it for big shows. I attached a picture of my racecar on the trailer to see if you guys think it will haul it.

The only information I have says it is a 1981 GMC. It has a rebuilt small block Chevy with 5,000 miles under the hood. And there is a tag on the bag of the bus that says superior. I would just like to know what it is before I get too far into the project and find out it’s not worth it.

Does anyone have an idea of what this thing is?! Pleas help

Having a bit of experience with "free" buses, I can say there's never really a free bus...they all cost money. One of our buses is even named Freebie. But if she runs, that's a good deal if you're willing to take on the project. That is one cool looking little bus.

That looks like a GM P-30 chassis so think 1 ton dually. 350 Chevy with a turbo 400? It will pull your trailer and race car. It has a lot of wind drag so highway speeds will be a bit of a challenge, so don’t get in a hurry. But the price is right.

That is a Superior Pioneer FC. Very tough to come across, I've only ever seen one in a junkyard (and I've been in a LOT of junkyards).

You'll get about 4mpg pulling that trailer.

No hurry here! We take our time getting to the track anyway. Only do about 65-70 even with my truck. If it can slow roll at 60 it’s good enough for me.

Generally get behind other rigs going to the track!

WOW!! I’ve spent hours! And I mean hours, close to 10 or 12 trying to figure it out.

Thank you so much! Do you know much about them? When I couldn’t find what it was I got pretty nervous I may have made a mistake taking this project on

Not a problem. I’ll measure it in smiles per gallon then. I’m sure it’s cheaper than what I spend in race fuel lol

It doesn't have a title I assume, but it does have a VIN? That tells you what it is.

I just counted 10 lug bolts and looks like 19.5 tires so it may be a P-40 chassis then.

It does have a title. Just says 81 GMC. Does have the vin number and tried looking it up a few times and couldn’t find anything. Turns out it is a superior pioneer FC.

It is in fact 8r 19.5 tires. Also had the chair lift so it would make sense to be on the bigger p40 chassis. Plus it seems bigger than the p30 busses I was looking at but you would know better!

Running gear wise it will be economical to repair. If it is geared to low swap in a 4l80e or a nv4500.
