NM Land Buying

Hello, I'm new to this website, but it looks like there's already been a good deal of discussion for this topic.
I read what I could find, but felt the need to make my own post:
The boyfriend and I have a bus we converted, and the dream was to buy some land in NM to live out of it.
We'd like to be close to ABQ, within a 30 min drive, and have a treed lot.
Not totally committed to that location, it's just the best place for him to have a diesel mechanic job he would like.
My question is, we seem to get a lot of mixed messages about where it is and is not okay to buy land to do this.
Some zoning isn't clear. Real estate agents haven't been much help.
Some have even told me it's illegal across all of NM to live in skoolie.
So, does anyone have experience buying land?
Where should we look? What's a good website/real estate agent to ask?

Thank you!
