Paint Prep Sanding Mistake?

I had an acquaintance say that his friend owns an auto body shop and would paint my bus for super cheap.. as long as I did the sanding work beforehand. This person said I needed to sand down to the metal.. and since he was a “professional” I listened. I did about half of the hood area then stopped. I looked into it more and realized I did not need to sand it that far down (face palm). Picture of hack job is attached.

Is there a way to fix this? What should I do??

You can fix it, but that ain't metal. You might need a da sander or an orbital and smooth it all out. I sanded all my yellow paint with a 220 grit on an orbital. Just knocked the gloss off. Then I went over all the curves and rivets with a scouring pad.

That hood is fiberglass.

You'll have to "smooth" out what you have. Repair what you need to, then fill in the low spots, sand it all back smooth, sealer, primer, final sand for looks, and then paint.

I'd stop what you're doing, and have the "professional" come out and actually guide you on what needs done. If they're not willing, then you need to find a new professional. Or prepare to take this on yourself.

You got mis-led, just rough up the surface so the new paint will stick, it's ridiculous to sand to bear metal. Shoot some primer on the part you sanded down just to get a look at what you did, if it looks good with the sun shining on it then it's good to go. If you see some irregularities then shoot a few coats of sand-able primer, sand with a sponge or such in your hand (fingers and palms leave grooves) until you think it's smooth again and then paint it. They make a paint/prep that you can shoot on old paint and it preps it and keeps you from having to sand it at all....but it's expensive.
