Platforms, what's the best way to make one?

I notice in the gallery here, and on the web that many people put platforms on top of their busses, to party on or whatever. What's the best way to do this? Do they just weld uprights on the bus ribs? Are they made of steel.. or wood? Will this weaken the top of the bus or any other part of the structure? I really like these.

Look through the Iowa Buses gallery, there a lot of buses with decks pictured in there.

This is my friend Jared's bus, I can go and take some more detailed pictures for you if you want.

i would also like to add a deck to the bus this summer.

The way i see it, there are two methods of attaching....The most common is having the support beams connected to the sie of the bus. The big advantage is that you're roof won't leak from improperly seated rivets.
The other method is to attach the deck to the roof itself. The advantage here is that you can make a smaller roof deck, and therefore use less material.
