Registration Success in Alabama!

Woot! Woot!

Walked into the registration office in my county in Alabama with the Bill of Sale and signed over Title, told them that I was converting the bus to a camper/RV and Success!

My newly acquired 2001 Thomas International 77 Pax School bus bought in Iowa is now registered as an RV in Alabama.

All they did was verify the Vin, charged me the tax and registration fee and issued me the plate. New Title will be coming in the mail.

Sooooo relieved!

Good Sam will be getting the call shortly.

Now the conversion begins in earnest!

Genghis sends.

What county are you in? Did you take any special paperwork or pictures with you? I’m in Jefferson county and about to start the process of title as a rv.

Hey, Bama-Billy -

I just registed my bus right next door in Shelby County with no issues by using the method provided in this thread:

http://www.skoolie.net/forums/f18/ho...ion-15292.html

I believe that it will be cheaper to follow this method than to go through the state of Alabama as well.

Cheers! - Tyler

Registering a school bus as an RV and getting a tag is easy in Alabama. Getting an updated title changing the body type from a bus to a Motorhome/RV is also relatively painless. That is according to correspondence with the Alabama Department of Revenue concerning the title. The outstanding issue may be with your insurance company. My insurance company (Progressive Commercial) will not continue coverage under the same policy when it is titled as a RV.

Bama-Billy i saw you post and I am in Jefferson county as well, and was wondering if you are a part of any local bus conversion groups, I am very new to this a wanted to see if there was local resources or even an informal group that swaps info that newbies could find useful. Thanks.
