Roof hatch handle leak...

Anybody know if there is a rebuild kit for the transpec brand roof hatch? Bus is all sealed up except for the hatch handles that leak one or two drops every 15 or 20 minutes when its raining... I'd rather put new seals in if possible and not have to spend 500 bucks on two new hatches that might leak anyway...

may want to look into a more long term solution. The factory hatches in my roof failed early in their 23+ year lifespan and have caused me tremendous grief in the way of rust repair.

Can't say I've ever heard of a roof hatch more than five years old that didn't leak.

damn, that's kind of what I though. I would like to keep the emergency exits on top since we got rid of the back door...

There are some odd sizes of roof vents available in the rv world that double as exits. I don't have any links, but if you dig around there will be something applicable.

I've looked all around at replacements but there's no way I'm spending that kind of money on a flimsy RV hatch. Found my solution. I was wrong, my hatches are specialty model 8645. There is apparently an o-ring around the handle shaft that sticks up through the hatch. I'm gonna replace it and see if the leaks stop. If so my solution cost me about .10. If not I'll look more into finding a crank open skylight that fits reasonably close...

The rv stuff I have is much less flimsy than the stuff that came in my bus.
I'm with you though, a new o-ring fix would be awesome. They love me over at our local Ace.

I tried a lot of different fixes trying to get my hatches to stop leaking. Eventually I gave up and yanked them and sheeted over the opening. The bus has been bone dry since. I really wanted to keep them as it makes for easy access to the roof, but after asking around I found out that those hatches tend to always leak, even when they are almost new. That info made taking them out easier.

I put a little stainless dog dish inverted over the latch. Used sealant to affix it. Opens fine from inside, if roof access needed, just pull up on the dish and turn the handle.
