Short bus AC install(need advice)

Since my short bus has two roof hatches it appears I would have to cut my 14x14 opening through one of the roof support beams. That seems like a bad thing but not really sure. The second option I guess would be to remove one of the hatches and rig up something to shrink the 21x21 opening to 14x14. I like that idea just not sure of the best way to do it. The thrid option would be to just get a portable AC unit like ( http://www.homedepot.com/Featured-Produ ... ogId=10053 ) but not sure if it could cool the bus. Any advise on which way I should go would be helpful.

Re: Short bus AC install(need advice)

The roof supports are 26" apart but if my math is correct since the top unit is around 44 - 48" long to fit it inbetween the roof hatches the 14x14 hole would have to be right next to or over the roof support between the hatches.

Re: Short bus AC install(need advice)

Is the issue that you are wanting to locate it exactly in between the roof hatches? Is it not possible to mount it in one of the panels directly behind or in front of one of the hatches? If you want to just use one of the hatches, I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to just get a piece of sheetmetal cut to size to cover the hole the hatch was in and then cut a smaller 14" hole in the sheet metal to mount your AC. My bus is a little bigger than yours, so I will cut a new hole for my AC and retain my two vent/hatches.

Why aren't you using one of the existing roof hatches for the AC unit?

Re: Short bus AC install(need advice)

Turns out the diagram I was looking at that had 44" length was for a low-profile unit, I'm an idot sorry I did find the correct diagram for a normal unit and I think I can fit it in there just fine. What's even better is the roof support will run under the back part to support the weight.
