Should I buy a 1982 Bluebird?

I'm new to this and looking for my first bus. I just found out a friend of a friend is selling his 1982 Bluebird because he can't finish the conversion. I was planning on buying something much newer than that because I'm worried about maintenance. However, I'm 6'4" and he's already completed a 18" roof raise. And I really like the look of the front end. So it's tempting. Can any of you pros offer me some advise? Is it going to be hard to keep it on the road?

Help us out and give us more info about the bus, please. Engine, transmission, other pertinent stats...how big is it(if you don't know the length, how many windows long is it?) What kind of general condition is it in?

Thanks!

John

By a later model bus. That bus is old! Unless the owner has spent about $5k on upgrades. You can buy a newer bus for the same money. Make a Utility bus your target.

I tried to post a pic of it from his FB page but I dont think it worked. It looks to be 12 windows long. I'm awaiting his reply for more details regarding the engine and what work has been done.
