So I have an idea

I am a long way from this stage, but when an idea pops in, it's best to document it.
The idea : mount a track on the outside of the Skoolie (unistrut or similar type channel) and set up some accessories to mount on it.
Like a grill, a counter with sink for washing up, maybe a table with one collapsible leg.
I am probably not the first to have the idea, and I am putting it out here to get some feedback. Will it work? Is it a bad idea? Have you already done it and I can look at your build and borrow.
Thanks.

Your idea to use unistrut is a very good one. Not sure on the cost of the material but used it all my life in the electrical trade. So many brackets to choose from to make it versatile or adaptable without any welding needed. Just torque the bolts up with lockwashers and it'll never shake loose. If you think it might twist you can use backer plates where you bolt it on to eliminate any twisting or you might want to use some form of double strut where needed. It's also available in a seismic grade and used in all nuclear facilities for piping runs and to support cable trays.

I'm thinking about it to form the support for a flat roof deck. That way no holes would be required in the rooftop.
They have quite a catalog too to choose what you need. Available at any electrical supply house too.
Good luck with your projects.

I plan on using it to hang my holding tanks, was searching online and realized it made a pretty good "c" channel. I like the propane set up, looks great.

I've still got about 20' left of aluminum unistrut... That I plan on using in various locations.
I've already used about 16' for my dual sliding doors and the kayak rack on my suburban.... It's shaped like regular unistrut, but it was the upper horizontal track for an aluminum security fence in a mall where a buddy had a UPS store.

The spring loaded T nuts work perfectly in it!
I'm really going to miss having it when I use the last 20'... It's going to be hard to find!

Hey Stu,

How'd you mount those to the frame?

I didn't, I have 2 very thick side supports that run from frame to the body, I bolted brackets of each of them running strut in front & in back of the tanks & also bolted thru the floor into those struts ,then brought the strut down vertical in front & behind the tanks, bolted & welded framing. I also ran supports from the body to the vertical struts thinking in theory that if somebody ever should hit me there it will help push the tanks away from the impact, I fitted sheetmetal front & rear plus fitted expanded metal under & around the bottom to keep debris from impact.

Thank you Stu,

I would love to see a picture if you have one to share, but I think I understand the general gist. Good stuff!

That's greatly appreciated. I am interested in how you mounted them also..
If I could ask a favor... Get some close-ups of the propane connection points. I have fixed my gas grill, but plumbing propane into a livable space hasn't happened yet.

Thanks for trying. I am pretty sure I get how you mounted them. And a bunch of research has shown me what I need to plumb the propane system.
