Sourcing fuel tank replacement

Like many others, the tank on my 08 INT is quite rusty and I have dreams of replacing it, possibly along with the giant safety cage holding it up.

The question is, where can I source a replacement? The OEM is something stupid like $1500. I can't imagine a big square steel box is that pricey? I've googled around a bit and not come up with much.

Any leads/links would be appreciated!

I haven't looked for one myself, but take some measurements. There are plenty of website out there selling diesel tanks, just need to find one that fits.

There's one for 120 gallons at $630

If you can convert a school bus to a skoolie you can retrofit any tank to fit. That's my 2¢ anyway.

I doubt you need to replace the safety cage, no matter how rusted it might look. That's made of thick-walled (at least 1/8") rectangular tubing.

if it were mine I would look to a salvage yard.. lots of good fuel tanks in salvage yard busses... even northern busses often have good tanks that you can get for much cheaper than a new one..

Maybe it's an 08 thing. Our 08 IC re is rusted bad on just bottom. Probably going to clean/ treat then have another sheet of metal tigged underneath tank. As said I believe that tank cradle would survive a nuke blast. I'm going to mod it to fit on the outside put tank there. I would see if it could be cleaned and repaired.

WOW $1500 is crazey if it is just a standard tank. A few years back i bought a brand new 60 gal tank for like $250.it was a school bus spec tank if there really is such a thing. Many times the bus companies charge a BUNCH more cause its a "SCHOOL BUS PART" when it is really a truck part.
Making a bracket for a tank is super easy if you look under a late model C2 freightliner for ideas. (they have a rear tank between the frame rails if you make a plate that bolts to the bottom frame rails then Remove it and just make brackets and straps that hold the tank to the plate. )

I went on craigslist and found a farmer selling a 100 gallon kenworth tank with the hangers for $100. I just measured the maximum space I had and drilled some new holes in the frame to accomodate the hangers and stuck it in. O, and I had to cut the side of my bus to get it in there. Riveted, looks fine.
