Spare Key?

Hi!
Has anyone had a spare key made for their ignition? My school bus came with one key but I'd like to have a backup.
Thanks!

What's your concern? I would definitely have a spare made for $1 and keep it somewhere outside the bus.

Just like making a copy of the car key - take it to the hardware store and they'll make as many copies as you need.

No brainer, go to the hardware store and get a spare made. I got 2 spares made as soon as I bought each bus.

Perfect, thanks all! Haha, I didn't want to sound silly asking, but my car keys are electronic and can't be duplicated at a hardware store. I wasn't sure if there was anything unusual for copying bus keys. Looked like a basic key to me so I was hoping that's what you would say. Fresh bus keys being made tomorrow!!!

Just test each key when you get back to the bus.

I just got back from ACE hardware and they couldn't find a blank that matched. Anyone else have this problem?

Go to a locksmith. They will have them. I also removed the keyed entry to the double door and put and open and close button inside a combination lockbox.

I can now get in and out of the bus securely without a key. I have spare keys inside.

While Home Depot had a large selection of blanks, they did not have one for my Genesis. I went right next door to Walmart and they had it on their rack. Sure a locksmith will have them but I doubt you'll get keys cut from them for $2 a piece.

I was at Wrangel St Elias and we lost our key for a couple hours. The nearest locksmith was about 5 hours away over bad roads. A local was coming to try to hotwire us when we found it.

We also found a key for somebody else's car. They had hired a plane to fly them to Anchorage and back to get a new key made at their dealership - they got their key just in time.

Key did not start the bus

I brought my hardware store made key back to my 1998 Bluebird to check it after it was cut, and it would open the door but would not work in the ignition to start the bus. Still looking.
