I was planning on not using furring strips. My bus has 3/4 plywood floor already (no metal under). I was planning on going over this with 3/4" or 1" XPS and 5/8 plywood. The plywood will be screwed down with countersunk screws to not interfere with the floor covering.
Will this be ok?

If you use the high-density foam and put plywood over, you'll be good without furring strips to spread the load. If you go Styrofoam, they suggest the strips. 5/8 ply is fine. 2"
XPS would be more better if headroom allows.
