Tank quick connect/adapter?

Hey everyone, I have a small propane tank that was installed by the previous owners and I didn't have time to get it filled before we leave this evening.
I do have a full 20lb tank at home for regular BBQ, is there a way to connect that to my bus tank and fill?

There are YouTube videos on this but it seemed sketchy to me. Some people heat(!!) the donor tank to increase pressure. I’d just buy more propane before doing that!

Yeah the donor tank if a fresh 20, the one on the bus is 12.5 so u figured the pressure would even out low enough. I guess I'll figure out where to fill up before I go or on the way this evening.

I'd have it filled along the way. Shouldn't take long to do so.

If you absolutely can't do that, it looks like your regulator/hose can be unscrewed from the tank. So shut the blue labeled valve, unscrew the black handle next to it, and then screwed it into your 20lb cylinder from home.

I'd do that before I'd try filling your mounted tank from the bbq tank.

I called every TA, tractor supply co., and general stores that might do it. They all stop doing propane between 5 and 7pm lol.

Like Booyah says you should be able to disconnect the regulator from the mounted tank and screw into the bbq tank. You might need a crate or a chair to set the tank. Turn off the house tank first

I refill the little green propane tanks using 20lb tanks. Once they are connected the trick is to turn the 20lb tank upside down so you're pushing liquid propane into the empty tank, not vapour. Then the valves can be opened and they'll eventually reach an equilibrium. You might be able to get about half the 20lb tank into the empty tank with this method. That's about the best you can hope for.


I don't mess around with heating propane tanks, but for a better fill into the little green tanks I've tried putting them in the freezer first. It _does_ work to get more propane in them, but there is also the risk of over filling them. I prefer to transfer when the tanks are at equal temperature.
