Temporary bolt hole fillers?

The bus I bought to convert was previously a work vehicle and the owner has mounted several large eye-bolts (maybe 3/8" bolts?) on the inside and outside of the bus. Because they run all they way through, they're holding down some panels I'd like to replace or at least remove for remodeling. I'm thinking I may actually want to use the holes in the future (since they're there anyway) so I'm wondering about ways to temporarily patch the hole while I work on the inside - maybe 12-18 months (at my slow-arse pace). At that point, I can repurpose the holes I want and permanently seal up the others. The bus wouldn't be actually used during that time, though I'm sure it'd go through a rainy season.



One option I was thinking of was to just wad up some butyl tape and stuff it into the holes.

Anyone have any input on either of those (or other ideas?)

You don't mention and pics aren't clear where exactly these holes are. You offer some interesting ideas, but I think you're overthinking this. When seats were removed from my previous B700, I filled them with clear silicone, obtainable at any auto parts store. Those bolts weren't much bigger than 3/8, if they even were bigger. Smeared an inch or two out from, and built up properly in/over exterior roof holes, clear silicone should keep the elements out as long as the exterior surface surround any outside hole is cleaned prior to filling.

JB weld a penny on them . Remove them with a cold chisel and a hammer.

Sorry, the bolts are going through the roof. There's similar ones around the windows on the side where the previous owner had bolted bars for security, but they're in poor re-use locations so I'll fill them permanently right off the bat.

Put caulk around the hole, then put a short bolt into the hole and tighten, it tightening it makes the roof bend or deform use glue instead of caulk so you dont have to tighten it too much.
Or... get some roof seal tape, one name is butyl tape, just tape it with this stuff and forget it, it will seal it for many years.

Just to follow up, I used butyl tape rolled up - It's held up through the last Oregon winter without any of the holes leaking.
