Thoughts on this bus?

What do you all think? Not much rust in the pics, no mentions of rust in the description, and I've heard good things about most busses coming from CO... Not sure if it's hydraulic or air brakes, prefer air, but not 100% refusing to get hydraulic either.

Thanks ! looks like a great bus- will be bidding.

5.9L 12v Cummins won't see much love on this board for full sized bus. Surprised to see it in mountainous Colorado.

Loveland isn't too mountainous.

I was bidding on several of their other vehicles they just sold, all were specc'd with big motors and driveline brakes. These few buses must have been the flatlanders.

Don't count those old 5.9's out. You just gotta know how to drive them.

The bus looks pretty clean from the pics.

Loveland ski area is different then Loveland the town. Loveland the town is mostly flat unless the bus did a route into the foothills.

I am on my 3rd 5.9. Love them. Great motor.

However, 280k miles in a full size bus may be enough to pretty well wear one out.

Check mechanical condition on that one.

Long Idling and Low Gears contribute to an engine not lasting as long as it should...
You can improve on this by not idling as much and doing an upgrade for higher gears. I like the quick fix on gears of just going bigger tires, or just switching to the Super Single for better ratio and smoother a ride.

Dodge RAM trucks are very popular and are found everywhere. They use a lot of the same parts as the Skool Bus' which run the Cummins engines. Therefore parts are more readily available...

I was talking to the mechanics at the local bus barn- least favorite engine in buses now is the MAxxForce 7 . They hate them.

I like this girl- "2 fewer main bearings are a bonus for MPG !!" ...at the expense of longevity. Planned obscenities.

It took me all of about 2 seconds to realize that bus has air brakes. The auction ever so kindly had a dash photo showing a lovely yellow knob, which is 99.99% parking brakes for an air brake system. I didn't even run the VIN (yet).

Long answer short, those are the great, big, wide single rear tires on some trucks these days.

That's what I remember walking across town a couple times.

A "Super Single" is a Single Tire and Wheel that takes the place of Dual Tires and Wheels.
The Super Single is almost as wide as a set of duals and they come in taller sizes.
