So I did it. Here’s the bathroom, well what I can fit in the frame.

looks nice! what type of products did you use? Redguard on plywood and framing, then tile board, and a flexible grout/mortar are what i have heard should be used.

Those small tiles make sense so they arent as likely to crack.

Yes, that's very nice work. How long did it take?

I chose the small tiles because they were inexpensive and since they are 1/8” thick, some of the lightest.

The walls are overbuilt. I was worried about flex. I probably could have used less. I used 1/8” thick 1 1/4” steel tubing plus 1 1/4” square Douglas fir for the “studs”.

For the exterior side I used 1/2” plywood. For the inside, the tile substrate, I used a foam core tile backer called HydroBlock. The advantage of that stuff, aside from being lighter than cement board, it uses less fasteners with big washers that won’t pull through the board from vibration.

I used flexibond thinset and urethane grout to install the tile.

All I can say is, don’t try to set tile in 100 degree weather. What a mess I had. If I put the thinset on at the recommended thickness it would set before I could get the tile up, so I started adding a little more water and putting it on thicker. Since the tile is only 1/8” it would squeeze into the grout lines and I’d have to chase it back with a scrub brush. There’s a good reason to use white thinset with white grout!

I can’t remember how long. Too long. 30 hours?

So far I’ve driven about 2500 miles including some serious washboard dirt an it looks like new
