Tongue and groove ceilings... what's the trick??

Hey guys.

Just picked up my cedar plank tongue and groove for our ceiling. My issue is I'm having trouble getting the planks to lock together on the curve.

The groove side binds up on the ribs and won't slide into place.

Is there a trick to it like sanding a bit off the backside of the piece to give it more room on the curve?

How'd you guys do it?

Thanks!

When I saw the post title, I thought...oh no, you want shiplap not T&G. It's exactly because of the issue you're having.

You can cut off the bottom of the U in the groove edge of the board, to make it a shiplap style. That would require either a table saw or a router.

Hmm.. I could have sworn that I'd read t&g. Oh well.. easy enough to fix.

Now I feel really intelligent. Lol

At least I have the tools handy to fix my mistake.

Thanks!

You only need to modify the ones on the curved portions...the walls can stay T&G. I'm sure you DID read Tongue and Groove, because lots of people don't know the difference and steered you wrong. You've got this, though!

For sure! It'll certainly make things go smoother. I was getting a bit frustrated. Lol.

I'm more of a metal fabricator than a carpenter.

Thanks for setting me straight!
