Tow Bars

I have a 1997 Blue Bird TC2000. I am about ready to get a hitch and ball for a tow bar or trailer. It is not real easy to find one for a school bus. Any help or advise would be great.

Thanks!

Re: Tow Bars

Really easy to add hitch. I eye-balled it seven times and tried to figure different ways, finally found a super easy way.
My BB International has "drop downs" where the tow hooks are bolted on, basically a short piece of channel welded to the end, under the frame.
I used a 4" grinder to cut out a square of steel from the sides of the channel. Cut the mounts off the end of a hitch that was from a Dodge pickup.
This left me with basically a square tube, 3" I think, with the hitch part in the middle.
I then slid it into the hole on one side, far enough to get the other side up and in. Then centered it up and welded around the end on each side.
It's not going anywhere. Towed my new bus home with it )
Photo's are great, I'm just pathetically challenged at posting. I'll snap some and 'mail to you if you'd like.

Re: Tow Bars

I have a hitch bar that bolts across the frame of pretty much any large truck chassis. I used it for several years to tow my car. They are pretty common in the truck delivery industry but I've had mine for many years so I'm not sure where you would buy one now. It seems like the bumper of the average school bus would be heavy enough to support a bumper hitch, depending on the tow weight rating needed.
