Trim Coil

Hi, I'm about to start my own conversion of a 2000 IH diesel bus. I'm wondering if anyone has ever used trim coil to cover removed windows? Its cheap and fairly strong. If you have, how did you seal it to make sure it didn't leak? Robb

Re: Trim Coil

Typed it into google, got this stuff--> http://www.lowes.com/pd_89145-46086-...tId=3045817%20 so it must be some kinda flashing?

Thought about it, actually, yes. Would have to use a good adhesive and I would be dumb and weld it into place somehow. Because I'm weld-happy when I get my hands on an arc welder. Probably a good reason as to why I don't have one anymore.

I'm a shitty welder anyhow.

Re: Trim Coil

Trim coil is a plastic flashing.

We used an aluminum metal flashing that we found at the Socorro ACE Hardware. It was heavy for flashing, and BARELY the right height (this is why we ended up using the window frames). We had looked into buying sheet metal to cover the window frames and suffered from sticker shock. Apparently the cost of sheet metal in Socorro was much higher than in other states. To have them cut the sheets to size doubled the price. We bought the flashing for much, much, much less $. We are frugal. And we wanted to keep the look of the windows (but not the windows) with the little awnings over them. These little eyebrow awnings have been used to shield vent covers from rain. We didn't want a smooth sided bus.

Re: Trim Coil

I built a skookie many years ago, if I remember correctly I used something similar, but it was the coil that the seamless gutter guys use. There was one in town that sold me the stuff. I used it to cover the entire side with one piece. Wish I could find pictures of that bus.
