turn signal gasket

I have a couple of turnsignal/marker lights that are in quite nice shape, but the rubber gasket is gone. Bluebird no longer stocks it, they want to replace whole assy at over $90 a pop, made by some other company. The old gasket is a u shaped deal that goes around the socket assy and is the seal for both the assy and the lens. It's made by a German company, R & S. I've not hand any luck with any searches. Anyone have any suggestions on how to make or find something suitable? I've included some pics including numbers stamped on back and a detail of the gasket.
It's a 91 Rear Engine All American, the location of the light is on the front, outside of headlight on the curved panel.
Thanks in advance.

Re: turn signal gasket

Check out Rogers Corporation
http://www.rogerscorp.com
Look at the PORON product

4701-40-15250-04 (6.35mm)
4701-40-15375-04 (9.53mm)

this is a dense foam that comes in sheets sample size (8.5x11 you pay shipping
Might work if you trace it out and then glue to one side

Re: turn signal gasket

I used craft foam (thin sheets of coloured foam) that I bought from Wal-Mart. comes in 4X6 & 8X11 (possibly slightly larger). I remade all my gaskets from the stuff. I used a paper hole punch to punch out the holes for the screws. A dot of silicone or EU6000 held the gasket in place while I put everything together. That way I didn't have to worry the gasket was slightly out of place (a coomon problem with my old gaskets.. it let dirt & water in).

Re: turn signal gasket

All of my gaskets are flat sided and I use the method described by Lorna. Seems like the thicker foam posted by Bansil would work well for more rounded coverings.

Re: turn signal gasket

one can also buy bulk foam with one side a stick on peelable film. its in automotive paint stores, and probably parts stores.. its made just for this kind of repair.
