Underbody lighting
Has anyone added an underbody lighting on there bus? What would you guys think if you saw a skoolie with a white underbody glow kit?

I have installed led strip lighting on the underside of past rigs. It's great for flood lights during camping when I let my dog out after sunset.
I've never bothered to worry about what others may think, but I'm sure some may like it and others may not.

If you use it in Kalifornia on the hwy it will make you instant ticket bate--especially if it has a blue cast.

My bus came with lights in the understorage cargo bays. May have to rewire the existing circuit for some nice LEDs.
Underglow type lighting is cop bait, I agree. Especially when traveling interstate when it's hard to know which states ban it.

A lot of things are done to vehicles that are against DOT or other regulation.
Most of this is based on public safety for good reason.
Another huge pet-peeve of mine is all the illegal HID & LED head lights blinding on-coming traffic.
Law enforcement is stretched thin dealing with "bigger issues" so these kinds of public safety infractions are left unaddressed...

IMO it makes good sense - including selfish sense - to avoid blinding oncoming traffic. Every time the subject comes up the focus is on the 'blindee', but it does no-one any good to have a sight-impaired driver hurtling towards you.
That being said, the wattage limits are nonsense. You can run cheapo LEDs at 'legal' power levels and blind everyone on the road, while the guy running high-quality 'off-road' bulbs in properly aimed & focused housings is a non-issue.
As far as underskirt lighting goes, wouldn't any potential legal complications be related to operation while driving? Could just use it when parked.

Years ago in a different rig, I forgot to turn my underbody lights off after camping. I was pulled over by a chp and after giving me a warning, he explained to me that lights where you can see the actual light bulb are not allowed, but the underbody lights were ok, as long as they were not blue or red as it could confuse the surrounding people.
Moral of the story; its at the discretion of the LEO

I'm considering lighting options for my bus. I'll have indirect RGBW lighting inside, and a string of lights around the edge of my roof outside. (I'll need to find some without red or blue, as this thread reminded me) Underbody lighting might be a cool detail, but not something I'd use on the road. It would definitely help me find my way home at a festival though!

You'd have to be crawling home through the parking lot for underbody lighting to guide you ... but maybe that's what you meant.

I would wonder if the guy crawled around under his bus at night to work on it or maybe trying to attract bugs....Lady bugs?
If the lights were motion controlled I think it would be good for you to walk around in the dark and also function as a critter detector
