I remember seeing something ages ago -- probably never made it beyond concept stage -- where there was a system fitted to blow foam beads into the space at night (or other times) and vacuum or drain them back out when the window needed to be seen through. I always thought it was a neat idea, but then I sometimes wondered how they'd with static electric forces making foam bits cling in the space rather than clear out nicely.
