Use ceiling panels for floor?
Hello all! After pulling up my relatively rotten subfloor, I found these very thin sheets of metal screwed into the frame of the bus. They are flimsy AF. Once I unscrewed them and lifted them out, I can see down to the ground. This seems different than most busses that have a full metal floor? I’m in a shorty btw.
So, I was thinking of using the (not rusted) ceiling panels in place of these thinner metal sheets. I would cut them to size and screw them down in the same way these sheets were, but I think I’ll line the edges with butyl tape to keep road water out while driving. I will paint the unpainted side (which will be the side facing the ground) with “Cold galvanizing compound, zinc rich coating“ which is used to repair galvanize steel, sheet metal, and fences, it’s supposed to be corrosion resistant. It’s a restoleum product, about 8 bucks/spray can at my hardware store. My question is
Has anyone done this before?
And do you think it’s a good idea?
I could use the metal sheets that in there now, but ooowee are they rusted. And buying new galvanized metal is WAY ABOVE my price range. I just priced a small sheet at my hardware store at 3’x5’ was nearly 50 bucks and I’d need about 14. Yuck. I could opt for a cheaper metal? But I thought, wth, why not use what’s sitting in my bank yard… comments appreciated!
