Do you need a vent for your drinking water tank? If so, recomendations?

Yes. Make the vent with a filter at the end and make the end a couple feet higher the the top of the tank to prevent spillage.

Yes. It doesn't have a stink to it, so you can vent through the floor. I have a 1.5in hose going into the top of the tank and then I have another 1.5in hose next to it going down through the floor. This also means if I overfill the tank it will come out through the vent. If you have zero vent, and you have a non vented cap on your fill hose, then your water pump could vacuum your tank collapsed.

Coachwork: Busless for now
I'm with flattracker on the vent. My sticks & staples truck camper has a 1-1/2" gravity fill hose and a 1/2" vent/overflow hose going into the side of the tank right at the top. They exit though the side wall a foot or so above the top of the tank. The vent is right next to the fill.

I would be afraid of siphoning my tank empty with a bottom exit if you tilted a good bit the right direction with a full tank.

Just a thought.

The purpose of a filter at the end of the vent is to protect the fresh water from things like bugs and other contaminates.

Everyone's already answered yes but I figured I'd drop in and share what I did. I purchased this fixture for my rig. It gives me gravity feed to fill my tank, a city water hookup, and in the center hole is the vent tube for the fresh water tank and for overflow when filling the tank.

Mfg: Valterra
Model# A01-2000VP

It was about $40 for me 5 years ago.

Count me voting for a filter as well. I’d use a water filter so if the filter got wet it would not fall apart

If you are installing a gravity fill inlet for your bus they can come with a vent hookup built in. You just need to run the vent line from the tank. If you are installing a hose pressure connection inlet you will need to run a vent line to the outside of the bus. Vent from the top of the tank and make sure the vent end connection to the outside is higher than the tank connection.

I installed the exact item. It is a piece of crap. Not UV safe (already yellowing after two years). There are better products. Return it or toss it, and use one of the better versions.
