we stayed at a park in kenora ontario, we were the red necks of the parks, all nice new fiffe wheels and the guy next door had a 150,000 motor home, nice, but with that being said more people came over to see our bus, and where all positive comments.

How about doing all of us a favour and leave a review in http://www.campgroundreviews.com and don't forget to say "We camped here in a skoolie".

D.Dan I hope you do to, Its a blast driving this thing, and nice easy to set up and take down camping, as soon as I can Ill take pics of my holding tanks and how I put them in, everything is coming together nice, we have a big trip to the east coast starting around the 4 of july, planning about 35 nights 5-8 thousand miles , so everything has to work on the bus.

I like the idea of being the "Red Neck" in the campground. I have found in the places I go to, everyone wants to ask questions about the conversion and all have been really nice people...even the one's that own the $100,000 plus rigs with the slide-outs.

Re: we went camping

I agree, its a blast to camp with a bus, we just got back from a weekend camping, had 3 people take the tour of the bus, theres lots of nice folks, and its nice to meet different folks. Iv been keeping a log book this year , of camp sites we have been, people we meet, fuel etc, I always jot down about the people that take a tour inside, some day it will make for interesting reading. we will be heading out around the 4 or 5 of july to take a 30 plus days run to the east coast from here, should be about 5-8thousand mile trip. im sure we will hit wifi so I can go on line and check out this site, also I have a Magic jack phone so I can use on the road, it will save my cell phone bill.

Re: we went camping

We drove up (not camping) to Pie Town yesterday for the Pie festival and checked out a couple of public campgrounds on the way. I have started a photo bucket page with pics and info. I have listed what sites our 40 ft bus will fit into. Datil Well is a nice campground and the roads are not as rough as I was lead to believe. I wish our gravel roads had been that nice back when we lived on gravel roads! Only $5 per night but no dump station and a 7 day max stay. There is a camphost on site (noted) so I guess we could ask where a dump station is at. No bath houses only pit toilets (1 handicapped station -pic- and 1 regular). Based on the "view" in the pit toilets, I would say this place isn't really used alot. We also checked out the FREE city park in Pie Town. I haven't gotten the pics up for it yet. High grass, dispersed camping. Does have pit toilets (operational?) and a threaded water pipe. Commercial RV park in town (tiny). Perhaps they allow dumping? If you go to Pie Town for the pie... skip the Pie-oneer.. expensive pie and it wasn't that great. We sell a better pie and it's a "store-bought" one that we sell for less! We did not try the "Daily Pie Cafe".

the lowest we got was 10.1 mpg and the highest was 10.8 mpg. running about 93kms per hour(gps speed). it was allways around the same amount of kms per tank full about 519kms. after driveing 8740 kms, Im very very sure those numbers are right on the money. I has filling up when we had 1/4 tank left.

Im really happy with that, cruise controll really helps

And why are you putting the bus away during the winter months?

I know what an "occupational change'' is. We did that. Used to remodel houses until Spring 2008. David got the idea to do hot dogs and had me researching to see if we could survive on the $$. He built the hot dog cart from scrap & junk over the winter and sold his first hot dog in March 2009. April 15th he worked a Tea Party Tax Day Protest. They expected 60 people.... they had 800 and David was the only food vendor there. Not the first time we did an "occupational change" David got tired of installing cabinets in SC and we moved to TN where he sold home security systems for several years... until my Dad (tile setter) got sick and needed help. David got sucked back into construction yet again. I am his "unpaid labour". This time, we have sold off most of our construction tools, so no going back (except to build the bus).

We run the food cart year round. We are going to stop selling hot dogs because the BBQ and the deli sandwiches outsell the dogs big time. Better check to see if the health department will allow popcorn without a permit. They are strange about things. Quartzite is EXPENSIVE to vend at.

Re: we went camping

We are as far north as we can be (for us) to vend year round. Denver has several street vendors and they vend thru the winter. David says that's too cold. He may be from MI but he's lived too long in the South. He says we need to be in a warmer location than Central NM! So, in a couple more winters, we head southeast. Unless I won the Lottery and than it would be much sooner! David keeps buying me losing tickets, darn it! He buys me 3 tickets when we get gas. That's only once, sometimes twice a week.
