Weigh station etiquette

I was thinking of weighing my bus but have never been to a weigh station. Does anyone know how they work? Are they for commercial vehicles only? is there a cost? I live in Oregon

you can also get weighed at a scrap metal dealer or grain elevator.

a couple of other places include the gravel pit or a redi mix place been weighed at both!if you end up at a government one, be on your best behavior! they can make your life hell...

I drive trucks... and I avoid the highway scales like the plague even if I'm legal... when they're open.
But, I use them all the time when they're closed. Most leave the window shades open so you can read your weight, some even turn the display to face out the window. No one cares what you're driving when they aren't open.
