What do you do with all the seats?

So what do you do with all of the seats that you just removed from your newly acquired school bus? Who would buy a bunch (or even one) old school bus seat? I'm handy enough that I suppose that I could make yard furniture or maybe something else unusual but useful out of them. Hopefully be able to sell some that way. Or, just haul 'em all down to the scrap yard and be done with it. What do you all do?

I have not removed/disposed all mine yet. Never know when some random bits of metal will be useful for fabricating something.

No question it was not worth fooling with. Sent them straight to scrap and paid me for them.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I figured. I just like to re-purpose or sell when I can before deciding to scrap or trash anything.

I put them on the street corner with a "free" sign, Most of them disappeared. Due to the amount of people doing conversions these days, there's Not much value in old bus seats where I live.

Took mine to the scrap yard. Got paid a whopping penny a pound for them, a total of $10.

I left mine in a pile behind my bus until they were stolen along with my ceiling panels. Best theft of my life - they made off with about 3/4 of my trash pile by weight, which saved me a bunch of money and time.

I was kind of disappointed at the time since I had planned to salvage some of the metal from them for welding practice, but luckily I found a better source of scrap. To be honest, the metal from the seats is pretty much crap as far as useful material goes. The sheet metal backs are bent for strength so you can't cut any large flat pieces out of them, and the tube for the frame is similarly bent up and welded to other bits and you'd have to do a ton of prep to use it.

Did you weld an extra pair of legs on these or were all your seats like this? My seats would have been an uneven experience on the ground without further work, except for the two exit-door seats.

Offered mine for free on CL. Lots of flakes, no takers.

I took them to the salvage yard and, after a little negotiation, they agreed to take them for free.

I put a free ad in the local shopping weekly for "Free schoolbus seats, you haul", and got not a single response. The first batch I took to the scrapyard and got 2.5 cents per pound, after I separated the steel from the upholstery material, which took a few hours and will not be repeated at that rate. I'm going to end up paying the county to deal with the bulk of them.

Most of my seats are not any good for sitting around the fire. I had 1 seat with 4 legs, and one seat with 3 legs, just because those seats were near an emergency exit. All the rest of my seats had only 2 legs, so they would need to be modified somehow to use as fire ring couches.

Where my bus is parked now, the lot owner previously rented to a skoolie builder who solved the seat problem by stashing them in one of the lot owner's outbuildings and then absconding without paying rent for good measure. This made the owner not return any of my phone calls for months when I first got the bus, which forced me into parking it 40 minutes from my house and getting robbed three times.

Dispose of your seats properly, fellow skooliers!

Yeah, I burned a few too. The smoke it made was very black. At first I couldn't believe the neighbors didn't complain. The wind blew all the black smoke right toward their deck, where I could hear them entertaining guests. Then after the fire was out I had to deal with seat-sized pieces of fiberglass cloth that didn't burn. So I quit burning seats.

I placed a ad on Craigslist free items and they were all gone within days. A good way to get rid of other items not wanted. And I didn’t have to haul anything.

Placed an add on Craigslist to pick them up for Free. I just wanted them gone and did not want to have to haul them off myself.

Recycled most of them. Held a couple back to be turned into workout benches.

Don't we already have a thread on this subject? I seem to remember a few other interesting uses in that thread

My Aunt took 6 for her patio. A friend mounted one in his gator and took the rest for some other project. All gone the day we yanked em out. Other builds I wasn't so blessed. Couldn't pay to get rid of them. Stripped em down for their components. Metal, plywood, and naugahide. Feel sorry for all the naked naugas.

some not all of my seats were like that. it was a handicap bus and a lot of seat in the rear had both legs for different layout options.
