Re: What it this button for? (and some weird noises)

the floor button might be a dimmer switch, and the pilot light maybe for the flashing warning lights, or the stop arm, as for the other stuff not sure, hope this helps

I concur. The floor switch is the dimmer switch for the high/low beams.

The pilot light will be for the 8 way flashers. I was able to eliminate mine without too much trouble. I was able to repurpose a lot of the wiring too.

I like that repurpose the wireing. I did that as well wired the orginal interior lights , as 12 volt power ports to use the started battery when driving, then flip switches so the run off house battery or shore power, the system is set up with the igntion so the key has to be on, this way it wont kill the battery. for the 8 way flashing lights Im going to take out the flasher, put clear lens then I can have flood lights.

Yep, I've owned a couple Ford vans and trucks from the 70's that had dimmer switches on the floor like that. Terrible design in my opinion. If you have a manual transmission you need that left foot for the clutch! There have been a few times I would really have liked to click my dimmer but couldn't because I was in the middle of shifting gears.

I would love to hear more about this flood light idea and see pics![/quote]

what Im doing is replaceing the red warning lights on the roof , with 7'' clear lens, Ill bypast the flasher so they stay on, a switch for the rear, and one for the front. they wont give out a whole bunch of light, good around the came site, back up etc, but the way i look at it, the lights are allready there might as well use them
when its done ill post pictures

Re: What it this button for? (and some weird noises)

as far as the issue with the glow plugs, voltage drop, and weird noise....I am not sure how IH diesel engine glow plug circuits work, but I do know a lot about vw glow plugs. Perhaps they are similar.

In an older vw, the glow plug light comes on for a period of time then goes off. At this point it is ok to start the engine. However, the glow plugs continue to cycle on/off even though the "glow plug light" does not come back on. It's not really a glow plug light so much as it is a "wait to start light" ie: the indicator light does not really tell you when your glow plugs are on/off. The glow plugs may continue to cycle on/off for the first few minutes after the engine has started.

Glow plugs require a lot of current, so it is normal to see battery voltage drop when the plugs come on, especially if the engine is not running.

NEVER use starting fluid on an engine with glow plugs! (starting fluid is generally not good for engines, but can be instantaneously lethal for an engine with glow plugs or heated grids. )

Will do, the lights should be here by monday, tuesday, If the weather is good, ill install them right away, at least in the front, to much snow to get at the back of the bus.

got the front lights in, still working on the wireing to bypass the flasher, and still have to install the rear lights.
