They recycled the tin roof into planter boxes, which they expect to withstand rot better than wood boxes.
Tin roof ... RUSTED! I was curious about what an actual tin roof on a bus would cost - seems to be roughly 4X the price of steel.

The actual roof material of 20 ga. sheet steel might not withstand water so well. I don't think my roof panels are galvanized but I'm not entirely sure. I wonder how long painted sheet steel would hold up as a container of wet dirt. Would the paint hold up forever without really any mechanical action to erode it?

This is a pretty cool idea, though. The structure of a school bus certainly does lend itself easily to conversion to a greenhouse. I wonder if she knows how easy it would be to disconnect a bus body from the chassis and slide it off the back, in case people didn't want a full bus hanging out at their house.

Article says she charges $8000 for one of these conversions.

I can not remember who ... but someone did the reverse ... bought a bus being used as a greenhouse. Was that Ronnie? I just can not remember stuff any more.

I suppose that if you use something like elastomeric paint on the inside of the metal pots, it should last forever ... or at least virtually forever.

6-71DD

You've got me interested . I'll have to follow that build when you get to it.

As far as the green house idea, it's not as bad of an idea as those that cut the roof off and use them as produce haulers. Although I don't think the sheet steel will last as garden boxes like they have them. Maybe a coat of por15 will help with to stop that.

Are you building a street rod? That 6-71DD looks HUGE ... I suppose you have an extra-large shoe horn to make it fit in there! I want to follow that build as well. Perhaps come by and help since I'll eventually be moving closer to y'all. Not too close, mind you.

I am sure a bit of firewall trimming will be needed.... As far as doing a street rod, not sure if I will go with that theme, maybe street rod tractor trailer theme, stacks, a Peterbilt hood/fenders would be nice. The DD is rated at 270hp.

That sounds dreamy, Ronnie! Make it as "Semi" as you can!

Are you going to apply any performance enhancements?

I'm with ECCB ... making it look like a semi rig would look great.

At 270hp I do not plan any performance enhancements. Not sure what the torque is.

According to Eaton the 671 develops 230hp @ 2100 rpm and 611 ft lbs torque @ 1600 rpm while the 671T develops 275 hp @ 2100 rpm and 853 ft lbs torque @1200 rpm. There are a bunch of engines rated here to look at.

It depends on what injectors are in it as well. The data tag on it says Model 6L-71N 4V. I was mistaken about 270hp it says 250 hp. no torque value shown on the data tag.

The 4V indicates a 4 valve head.

Had a 4valve in one of my 47 Dodge trucks. No it was not original. I put it in there. If in doubt put a detroit in it
