What would be the best bus for my goal?

My goal is to purchase an older school bus, the less computer and more mechanical the better because i want to learn everything myself. I do plan to travel some in it, BUT it will be my home once all converted. I plan to eventually purchase land and park it there, but I'm talking out in the sticks, the boonies possibly mountain area but not sure as that will be decided once I'm looking for land. Temperature wise I live in Florida now but I plan on going north I want seasons. Soooo I'm guessing a standard school bus would be best thought for ground clearance and terrain, but what engines should I be looking at? any things I should specifically look for or avoid? All information is greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
