What's the most money you found after taking out the seats

$2.65 which included an actual $1 bill!

I'm only .20 off your mark, lol. I posted a pic of mine a while back. Looks like maybe $2.85 and a token or foreign coin.

I stripped all the padding off the frames and took all of those (except the flip up bench from the emergency door). So 25 seat frames, the two bulkhead panels from in front of the front row of seats, all of the interior wall panels, the wire chase panels from above the windows, the metal skins off the interior of the engine compartment and rear bench, the chase panels for the heater hoses, brackets from the stop sign, the two mirror assemblies for watching to make sure no children are in front of the bus, and all of the ceiling panels except one (that I saved to lay on the ground when I'm working under a vehicle).

I had a few other things mixed in to top off the load (a couple metal shelving units, a metal cabinet, and some cast iron pipe) and the whole load paid about 60 bucks at $4.60 per 100. I'd estimate the bus items accounted for about 45 bucks of that.

As for money found in the bus during the interior gutting... not a single cent.

That's what I hate about buses from poor neighborhoods. No spare change hidden in the bus. There wasn't even very much gum, and the flavor was already chewed out of it.

I only had three seats in this handi-bus and I'm still using them. I saved all my interior panels hoping I'd find uses for some of it. About the first scrap guy that comes along will get it all if I don't use them within a year. I'm so far out in the hills that the scrap value doesn't cover fuel costs to sell it.

Did you have to strip the padding before they would accept the scrap? I took my seats off but the back padding is still on.

You don't *have* to strip the padding.

But if you don't, the scrap yard will estimate what percentage of the weight you've given them is comprised of "contaminants".

They'll always estimate high in order to ensure they aren't giving away their profits. If you sell them stuff with contaminants, you're essentially giving them license to rip you off. On a load like this, it wouldn't be a big deal. You might lose 10 or 15 bucks. I'm just in the habit of making sure everything's clean because I'm typically taking in loads of things like 500-600 dollars worth of stainless pulled from laboratory demolitions. In those instances, it amounts to more like 150 bucks that you're giving away, if you're lucky. If the contaminants are deemed to be over a certain percentage on stainless, you get paid shred price instead of stainless. That means the $500 load becomes $90.

selling my seats to the scrap yard

I found 65 cents in my seats while taking them out. Removing the padding was only another 10 minutes or so per seat, so I did that, and hauled it to the dump, which cost me $4.00 for the load. Then my husband and I hauled the 800 lbs worth of seats to the scrap yard, which paid me $50.85. As I was removing one of the seats from the trailer, I put the leg through my husband's trailer tail light, which cost us $25 to replace. I gave him the 65 cents and a "I'm glad you love me so much." We still came enough ahead to buy lunch. Barely.

I found almost 16 dollars in change in the crack of the seat where the seat meets the back. I was pretty gross though. I had to remove a lot of gum and candy wrappers, dirt and the grosses thing.... hair. there was soo much hair trapped in the cracks of the seats. Next time I'm just going to throw them away, the money is not worth it lol. I cleaned up all the change and took it to coinstar. Like I said, I cant remember the exact number, 15 something. I just remember thinking 16 bucks was hardly worth the effort.

What I found was PRICELESS.
A rap video made by some of the kids who'd ridden the bus at some point. Of course I posted it to YT!

Awesome, eh???

Oddly- My shorty didn't come with ANY money or ANY trash at all. Clean as could be!

No joke, I found a $10 bill about mid way down on the pass side of the bus against the seat bottom and the wall. Then your random spare change, total was just under 12 bucks, used that to buy grinding wheels to cut out the seat frames

600 lbs at 4 cents a lb for my stripped seats. Still have all the wall/ceiling skins, heater hose covers, stop sign, etc.

Haven't counted the pennies. So far all pennies except for one nickel.

I think a better/second question would be how much weight did you lose? Mine is down about 2000 lbs from the start. That soggy plywood and linoleum was heavy as hell.

We found a bag of white power in my friends bus shell when we started pull it seats. It had been at the old bus lot it was at awhile, mechanics were stripping drivwtrains and parting them out, not sure what it was but you never know. Maybe the mechanics coke stash? Maybe a bag of crushed salt? We didn't have the guts to taste test an old bag of some kind of powder
