Where to put stereo?

I am having trouble finding a place to stuff a car stereo in the bus dash. I buggered up and cut a slot for it before realizing there was not enough depth. Going to weld it back up, some filler and cover the dash with vinyl anyway, since it was so full of other holes before it's not much of a bother.
So, maybe I am looking for an enclosure that I can put on top of the dash? Anyone seen something like this I can purchase premade, it would save a lot of fabrication time. And I have a hard time cutting straight anyway.

Re: Where to put stereo?

Try a marine place. It will likely set you back $50 (try fleabay?), but you can get a quality unit.

Re: Where to put stereo?

Some builders (Blue Bird) put them above the windshield on forward-control buses.

If you have room, what about below the switch panel to the left of the driver's seat?

Re: Where to put stereo?

Ours is above the windshield on the driver's side (it's a blue bird). It will be moved. I would hate to try and change the radio station or swap out a CD while driving... I would have to stand up and be on tip toe to do it. But then I am a little short. I plan on sitting in the driver's seat and work out some place to put it within easy reach while driving.

Re: Where to put stereo?

My factory unit was in the switch panel at the top and certainly within easy reach of the driver.

Re: Where to put stereo?

Picture of unit or page link? Those were just two places that I found pretty quick and the wording for how I found them. And the one pictured was nicer than the ones at the second link.

That's a link to the unit I bought, but I bought it at:

It was about sixteen delivered.

Re: Where to put stereo?

It's about two bucks cheaper at Walmart.com, and free site to store delivery, but I went with someone else anyway.
