White Tires (Whitewall, Painted, Whatever)

Look at the roof of a school bus. It is white, in order to reduce absorption of energy from that glorious, radiating ball in the sky. This is a good idea.

Why, then, are the sides of bus tires not also white? Why do we not paint them white, for example—despite many of us putting white covers on them after parking in sunny locations?

UV protection is probably more important than heat but why not both.

Whitewall tires are more prevalent for car enthusiasts than commercial vehicles.
Having said that, that gold Pete above looks cool!
Probably too hard to keep clean/good looking for long haul truckers though...?

Commercial trucks are also not likely to have issues with tires being old enough that temp and UV are a major cause of failure.
