Sounds like someone needs to go junyarding and look for a 454 with the tbi and computer. Probably be alot cheaper than AFI.

Might as well since you arent trying to re-create the wheel. All you are doing is installing a newer tbi on an older engine. Code readers are easy to find and you can even hook up a laptop to it and see what it is doing.

You'll have to loof for the vehicles that carried the 454 in them, ie the surburbans, big pickups, larger 1 ton vans. Those kind would possibly have them in them.

Re: 1978 Bluebird bus conversion project for sale
If you are willing to swap in a very very electronic diesel you are more man than I. Those things are a MESS of wiring. I'd rather deal with swapping in a 6BT that came in boxes of parts than mess with that wiring.
Scrounge around for that TBI setup. If all else fails look into a Projection system. They seem a bit cheaper than that setup you were looking at. Check around on other boards if you don't have success in the local junkyards (it's all about the 1-tons, man). Offroad/4wd sites are probably going to be your best bet. If you were REAL lucky you'd find a set of Vortec 454 heads you could swap on as well. You'd needa new intake, but no biggie there. Then you'd gain power AND mileage.
