1986 Bluebird Bus For Sale Move-in Ready

Hi all,

About 5 years ago now my wife and I purchased this bus in Oklahoma, drove it to Virginia converted it and then moved to Colorado. We lived in it full-time for the past four years and just this past winter decided to move out. I rented it for some the winter but moved it to storage where its located in Carbondale, Colorado. It's been well loved and well maintained.

The Details
This is a full size 68 passenger 1986 Bluebird School bus, dog nose with the Chevy 366 motor & automatic transmission. It has at least 100k miles on it as I rolled the odometer over but the exact mileage is unknown. The livable space is just over 100 sq ft measure from where the flooring starts to the rear exit. We converted it in I guess what you would call the "tiny house" style knowing we were going to live in it. Then as time went on and we travelled around a bit to different locations I made it a bit more off grid and so it has a 55 gallon water tank, gray water tank, 24V Water pump & Fridge connected to a Tesla model S Lithium Ion Battery and 650W Solar panel setup. It uses a nature's head composting toilet but I got tired of dumping the urine so I plumbed that in to the gray water system. It has a small RV bathtub which was mainly for the kiddo and dog but I did find it nice as well. The stove is propane and there is a tankless propane water heater as well. I can get more details on brands/models if needed but I'm just going from memory right now. There is a 30amp shoreline and a 10,000 Onan (I think) generator mounted on the back deck. This bus was featured in a few paper / online articles along with our story, people love it, we love it its definitely hard to see it go. The wood burning stove is a Cubic Mini Grizzly and there are also two electric heaters, we added a ton of insulation too so it stays very cozy in the winter. You really don't need air conditioning where we live so we mainly used fans or a spot cooler when we travelled.

This bus has been great for us, ALL the tires were replace within the last 10k miles and the rear wheels too, the fronts are still tube type split rims but with new tubes & tires . The bus door was replaced with a regular door by the previous owner. The carb is not jetted for this altitude as we mostly were traveling/taking it to lower altitudes. Unfortunately one of the hinges rusted out on the external storage area just due to snow melt and such and I haven't had the time to fix it.

The Deal
Anyway since we're not living in it and I've actually got a smaller bus I've started converting that I want to do in more of a camper style. So having this thing sit in storage for the past few months, except when I've gone out to start it up and what not, is painful so we've gotta get this thing sold. I'm asking $10,000 OBO.

Please PM or ask questions here I'll try to be diligent about checking / responding. It is still titled as a bus but I had no problem insuring it as an RV through progressive. You can also text me at ‪(97 OH) 2 three 6 - eighteen 33

(Note: You'll see in some of the pictures where it is decorated that is from when we lived in it, the pictures without decorations is how it appears now )‬

Hi there, I just want to make sure I'm understanding correctly that this is a gasoline motor? The Chevy 366 v8?

Also, is there any way you can find out the particular transmission that is in the bus?

Is it still in driving condition? If I were to purchase it, could I drive it away from where it is now? Will it need tires right away?

Did you all drive it around with a chase vehicle, or did you take this into parks and other places? A lot of the pictures look like how it would be set up for just sitting. Did you insulate the walls and/or ceiling?

Thanks for your time, I'm interested, just want to make sure I have all the details.

That is correct is a Chevy 366 V8 Gas motor. Its an Allison transmission but I'm not sure the model. I'll look today to see if has anything I can use to identify it.

Yes if you read my post above it is running & driving, the tires were all replaced within the last 10k miles it doesn't need anything that I'm aware of. I'd recommend a radiator flush since its been 4-5years since I did that and I can see the coolant is a little discolored (I'm told this has to do with the engine using an iron block).

Yeah we drove it around with that little orange Crosstrek that you can see in a few of the photos but for about the last year we were expecting a new kid and decided to move to a bigger place so it was parked in one spot from September till July where I rented it and then in July I moved it to the storage lot where it is now. The walls and floor are heavily insulated for winter I didn't add any additional insulation to the roof (there is fiberglass insul that is stock and about 2" in the ceiling already).
