1990 Bluebird turbodiesel in North Texas for sale

Hello. It is time to sell our family camper bus.

1990 Bluebird conventional on a Chevrolet heavy truck chassis. GM "Detroit" 8.2 litre turbodiesel. "66 Passenger". 10-11 mpg if on flat land such as Illinois at 57mph. Mileage varies with speed and terrain. Has been around the country, including through the Ozarks and over Monarch pass in the snowy winter. Bus is super dependable.

5 speed transmission w/ 2-speed rear axle. Disc brakes all around. Good tires - pass inspection. Less than 190k miles - tons of life left! Runs and drives wonderfully.

Semi-converted to comfy camper. Leather captains chairs up front so driver can have a co-pilot to keep him/her company. Leather sofas for passengers. Lots of shelves for bunking or cargo. Windows tinted (with some bubbling, but still lots of privacy).

Trailer hitch ready to go. We've pulled our truck with no problems, and I am very gentle on the clutch.

Closet with door for porta potty. Entire floor is padded and carpeted, making for a much quieter ride. Replaced clutch a dozen thousand miles ago; like new. HOA at our new home says "no bus", so we must say goodbye. $7,500 cash. Located in Celina, TX (40 miles north of downtown Dallas). I will have to get some more photos for you. In the meantime, please feel free to ask me any questions. Stephen.

Alrighty, got some more pictures. Please forgive the messiness, but she has been well-lived in and I'm short on free time.

Yeah, much more comfortable than the original big wheel which made my hands go numb and dug into my thighs.

2 speed rear... wow if I could automate that id have the first school bus with a 12 speed automatic!

Two things.

1) Reducing price to $4,500.

2) Inserting some Q & A:

- - - - begin Q & A - - - - -
What is the gross weight of the bus, can I drive with a class C?
Ans: ==>> Weighed at 16k lbs. The GVWR is 26,500 lbs per manufacturer. From my research, not all is clear regarding the laws for driver licensing since lines blur between registration, usage, personal ownership, etc. Personally, I have a CDL wth passenger endorsement. I am not able to answer the Class C question.

What would still be needed to change for it to be an RV?
Ans: ==>> In my conversations with Texas DMV, they said to bring photos of the "modification to RV or camper" so it can be registered as such. Similarly, in talking with Good Sam about getting insurance, they say to do the same. My understanding is they are looking for sleeping accommodations (such as bunks), dedicated food prep/cooking area (I said I use a camping stove and wash dishes in tubs, and they said fine), and any type of plumbing (bus has closet with porta potty as restroom, but no plumbing).

How long is the bus and will it make a long trip as is?
Ans: ==>> 30 ft long I believe. Should be good for long trips with no problem. We have enjoyed many. Diesel engine, very dependable. Has been maintained with proper lubrication. I have towed trailers and vehicles behind it. Need to be sure to plan your turns and parking before committing a manuver. I would perform a few minor routine preparations before embarking on a long trip though, as I would with any bus or vehicle.

Does it have rust?
Ans: ==>> Originally from Missourri, there is some rust here and there, but only minor in my opinion, and I've kept an eye on it. I do not think it has changed during my time of ownership since 2002.

Does it have any heater or ac?
Ans: ==>> Heater yes, runs off engine heat. We've driven across the country in the winter and stayed cozy (might need some fuel additive if extremely cold weather). No A/C; air flows from rear to front with the windows down. Of course in a state park you can plug an A/C or space heater in at the campsite.

Is there a cooking area?
Ans: ==>> No cooking area per se. We just set up a table with camp stove or toaster oven or microwave or coffee pot or whatever. I've left some original seats which can easily be removed for installation of your own concepts. We have gone through several reconfigurations to meet our needs.

Sleeping area?
Ans: ==>> Various bunks and shelves that can accommodate my family of 8, with some of the kids sleeping on the love seats. Probably pretty easy to reconfigure. I have installed a pair of rails on the ceiling as well as a wood beam on the driver's side where mounts can be fastened. Plus, it is easy to screw into the seat rails and anywhere on the interior walls with sheet metal screws.

Do you have any plumbing installed?
Ans: ==>> No plumbing other than the heater hose. Porta potty in the restroom closet can be dumped in rest stop and state park toilets.
- - - - end Q & A - - - - -

The passenger seat is interesting, but is it on tracks or something so it can be slid out of the way when you want to use the traditional school bus door?

The seat is firmly anchored through the floor and does not move. It does not interfere with the handle for opening and closing, nor does it impede egress or regress. However, as was designed for the Chrysler minivan from which it came, it can be released at the bottom and tilt forward for greater access behind it or even a little storage beneath it.

I raised the driver's seat up a little bit, and lowered the co-pilot seat for better driver visibility.

No worries! It's best to read the entire thread, because these things, like making a sale, sometimes happen.

You came to the correct category, anyway!
