i never would have thought you'd find a cummins motor in a ford bus chassis. I thought they were all about the brazialian fords, or the crappy v8 ih/navistar motors.
after being around phill's bus, i decided that I am a big fan of the 5.9 cummins.

The Brazilian motors actually weren't all that popular from everything I've read. It's not that they aren't good motors....they just didn't have a very long run. I know the 6BT was a fairly common motor in Ford MDTs along with various Detroit offerings (though not in the buses I've seen) as well as some of the older Cummins stuff like the 250. I know that after 199x almost every Ford chassis bus had the 6BT. I don't know that the IH diesels ever came in the Ford buses though I could be very wrong on that.

don't know when they stopped using them, but my 1991 ford b700 had a 6.6 litre brazialian motor in it.

The B-series was common in MDT Fords from the 80's until a couple years ago (most new ones have Cat engines). The International 6.9/7.3 IDI was NOT available in the F-series larger than the F-450. The 1999-ish F-650's COULD be gotten with a version of the 7.3 PowerStroke (the Cummins B was an extra-cost option).

Speaking of B-series (I know you were referring to the Cummins, but...) what is the difference between the B series Fords and the F series? What I mean is...what's the difference between a B600 and an F650? My owners manual applies to both but sheds very little light on the differences.

Near as I can tell, an F-600 was shipped as a cab & chassis. A B-600 was shipped as just the chassis & the front clip. A skoolie will almost always be a B-series rather than F-series.
Chassis-wise, same thing.

Working in the parts dept for a Ford Heavy truck dealership I can give you one little tidbit of info...
Those Brazillian built motors are extremely difficult to look up parts for them. The are not well documented, and finding anything is a problem. When you buy a bus with US motor (Cummins, Caterpillar, Detroit) they are extremely well documented. Using the engine serial you can look up just about anything via the build sheets. However, there are no build sheets on the Brazillian motors, you just have to look up generic build lists to come up with part numbers.

So I've learned of the Brazilian motors.....
You'd think they'd be a little better documented since they were used in A LOT of rigs during their run time. Atleast my local dealership is more than willing to print me off the microfiche pictures so I can find the part number for what I need.
