1998 38' Bluebird TC2000 75% Complete - 6BT MD3060

With mixed emotions we’ve decided to sell our bus, it’s just not getting the use I’d hoped. It was purchased in 2018 from a private owner that used it to give Xmas light tours, he got it from the school district in eastern Idaho. Lived its whole life in Idaho until we moved to Oregon last September, no rust issues to speak of. 14 window, roughly 38’ long. 12V Cummins 5.9L I6, MD3060 transmission (I haven’t unlocked 6th yet), great combination and the only thing I might change is a rear engine. 170K miles. It’s been a slow conversion, not done but very usable in its current state. We did a 2000 mile trip throughout Washington and Oregon with no hiccups, it’s a great bus and the drivetrain is super simple and easy to maintain. I haven’t been able to get an accurate mileage estimate but I think it’s sitting between 10 and 12mpg. With a 90 gallon fuel tank it’s pushing 1000 miles of range. We’ve taken it through a weight station, 22k lbs fully loaded. Sleeps and seats (with belts) 6. Reply or message with any questions, located in the Willamette valley.

Conversion:
  • Original seats and floors removed, floor rust treated, several coats of rustoleum followed by ¾” rigid insulation, subfloor, and vinyl flooring front to back.
  • Wall and ceiling insulation left as is.
  • Windows remain functional, added some sealant to those that were leaking. No known leaks at the moment.
  • Power cabinet behind the driver seat housing the breaker box (30A), solar controller, 2x 6V 100Ah deep cycle batteries, 2000W inverter charger, power monitor, small pantry, and front TV and bluray player. Shore power inlet next to the driver seat, cable and 110V adapter included. 400W of solar on the roof.
  • Ford Transit and 90’s Chrysler minivan seating. Sideways seats have built in 5 point harnesses for the wee ones.
  • Kitchen includes Camp Chef oven/stove, Edgestar fridge/freezer (110V), microwave, sink/faucet (not hooked up), and plentiful storage. Water pump, accumulator, and strainer installed but not hooked up yet. Propane water heater as well. Propane hung under bus, 2x 15lb tanks for easy swapping out. Hard plumbed to oven and water heater.
  • 12000 BTU mini split with heat pump, interior unit mounted above windshield, exterior hung from floor ribs. Plugs in separately to a standard 110V outlet.
  • 8KW diesel heater (installed, needs permanent wiring) with a standalone tank.
  • Bathroom with accordion door. I have a shower setup that I didn’t get around to installing that could be included for the right price. Same with the Nature’s Head composting toilet.
  • 4x bunk beds, RV twin size. I fit at 6’2”. Storage underneath with sliding doors. Baskets and water bottle holders on the walls.
  • Queen bed in the rear with a 7” foam mattress. Hatch in the bulkhead to the garage. Wall mounted TV/DVD that can pivot to be seen from the bunks.
  • Closets on both sides between the bunks and the rear bed.
  • Storage garage underneath the mattress with shelving and plenty of room for bikes, fishing poles, paddleboards, etc.
  • Full curtains throughout. 12V lighting throughout.
  • Painted with a lighter tinted rustoleum blue paint, lovely color and very durable.

Other Info:
  • Full service in 2021, including all fluids and 6x brand new tires ($3k).
  • Clean title, currently registered and insured as an RV in Idaho.
  • Air brakes, door, and seat work well. Buzzers still iintact. The strobe and stop sign still work as well.

Issues:
  • The transmission threw a 2112 code a year after I bought it (throttle position sensor issue). After diagnosis the shop swapped the TCM which seemed to fix it, but it’s back. Doesn’t affect driveability, I’ve just left it be.
  • I believe the temp switch for the fan isn’t working, it’s never overheated but has gotten a bit hot (200-210F) on long uphills in the past and the fan doesn’t kick on.
  • The stereo (simple bluetooth unit) has been misbehaving lately, I haven’t diagnosed it yet.
  • I had all intentions of lining the ceiling with maps. Got about 4 done so it’s patchy.
  • The tach gets a mind of its own sometimes.

Included Extras:
  • Full cover for winter storage
  • Wheel covers
  • Windshield shades
  • Winter grille cover

Extras available for add-on:
  • Nature’s Head composting toilet
  • Shower setup, including galvanized tub and drain hardware
  • 2x 55 gallon fresh/gray water tanks, level sensors, and all shore connection hardware, also a frame to hang them under the bus
  • RV ladder (was going to put on a rooftop deck)
  • Class IV hitch
  • DC-DC charger setup (I had plans to redo the solar setup to make it a bit more boondock ready)

Looking for $15,000, which is a good bit less than I have into it. Price is OBO.

I’d love to hear some feedback, more pics or details needed? Price off? Hoping to move this on to someone who can use it a lot more than I have.

Good luck on the sale. Looks like solid rig for someone on a budget who wants to go places now!
