Thomas 35’ Skoolie (9 window) Bus (Freightliner)
This bus is titled as an RV in the state of Indiana, clean and clear title in hand.
Insurance was not a problem for us to acquire. Cummins 6.7 NON DEF diesel engine, Allison auto trans (I do not know which particular model, but have been advised that it is probably an Allison 2500). Air ride, air ride drivers seat and air brakes. Brakes look new, 10R22.5 tires at 50%. No rust, this bus was in service and came from Tennessee. Mileage on bus and engine is 148,7xx. Engine runs perfect and will cruise down the highway at 70+ mph @ 10+mpg. The oil has just been changed, replaced with Shell Rotella – T 15w40, using a NAPA Gold oil filter, 0 miles on oil change (less moving around on my very small lot). Air filter and fuel/water separator recently serviced, as well as fuel filter. The auto clutch fan for radiator cooling has been replace with a manual solid drive fan, thus the ”check engine” light is on dash due to that sensor being disconnected.
Yes life changes, I have accepted an offer that makes me unable to complete this conversion. I bought this bus in early March ’23, with the intentions of converting to a skoolie camper. The interior has been stripped, except for the ceiling, the original flooring, wood and rubber mat removed to the galvanized steel deck, which has been wire brushed and painted with Magnet Paints brand Chassis Saver #99 High Build Gloss Black. Floor was then topped with 5/8” pink dense foam insulation, topped with ¾” Advantech OSB, the absolute most dense OSB available, for the subfloor. The junk plastic leaky original windows have been deleted and replaced with 18ga. Galvametal sheet, purchased from and sheared by Ryerson Metals, and riveted in place with 3/16 steel rivets.
The hardest work is done, especially the RV title, now comes the creativity. Build it the way that you want with your personal floorplan. Our plan was for RV windows where appropriate on the build out, solar panels on the roof so as to be able to be “off grid” as much as possible, but you be you. This unit has a rear steel deck and a very stable hitch already in place ready to tow. We do have a couple of the original bus seats left and some of the mounting rail, rear heater unit, and some of the rubber matting from the original floor, all available if so desired. Comes with a detachable radio that is blue tooth capable w/6 Rockford Fosgate speakers. The green exterior color does leave a bit to be desired, but hey, you are half way to camo.
